God Moments in my Office
Today a woman walked into my office with her cash tithe. That is not so unusual. What is unusual is that she is currently homeless. It is a long story, but she is now living out of her car trying to get back on her feet. We've been able to assist her before through the Jericho Road Project and provide assistance when we can.
She insists on tithing -- on giving God what is his.
At first I felt badly and tried to tell her not to tithe until things are more stable.
She would hear none it.
She says it is not out of obligation as much as worship and joy. She also insists that she is blessed richly by God.
Pretty amazing... and pretty challenging!
MARK 12:41-44
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.
Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on."

Wow! A pretty amazing example. It would be interesting to hear how she will be blessed through this.

What a privilege to be the recipient (St. Paul's) of such a pure heart. I feel humbled by her faith and giving.
