Debt Destruction

Imagine what the people of God, could do for the Kingdom of God, if they were DEBT FREE??

I just had to share about the small group that I am in. It is a 13 week video led course on financial accountability called Financial Peace University. There are 7 baby steps that the instructor, Dave Ramsey, teaches us all and guides us how to accomplish them.

The first bay step teaches how important it is to get $1000.00 into and emergency savings fund.

The second baby step is to GET OUT OF DEBT!!!! He teaches all about why we should get out and stay out of debt and for those fortunate enough to not have any debt, he teaches why we should NEVER use debt. (there are some instances when SMART debt is OK, notice the word SMART. . . LOL, that's another conversation)

During week four, which is all about DUMPING DEBT he teaches the myths about debt. . things like its a myth to have a car payment for the rest of our lives and how bad car deals are for new cars and that leasing is the more expensive way of financing and so on. he then talks about getting out of debt using Gazelle intensity and how we need to stay focused so the cheetah (debtors) wont continue to chase us (the gazelle) and eventually, through prayer and savings and selling things, we (the gazelle) will eventually be chasing the Cheetah (debtors) YAY!!!

At the very end of the video of week four, Dave talks about a plasectomy. A plasectomy is making the decision to cut up your credit cards so you never use them again, right there in class. So at the end of the video, we have a discussion about the lesson we learned. Then at the wrap up, the members of the group are asked if they want to cut up any credit cards.

As the facilitator of the group, I get the privilege of asking this question and man let me tell you, of the 2 classes I have facilitated, each time I asked, people were right there willing, with energy and enthusiasm, to whip out their cards, take the scissors and CUT AWAY!!! I mean actually SMILING as they did it some happy smiles some not so happy, LOL; But they all had the understanding of how important it was to make that bold decision.

This excited me so much tonight that I had to take a picture of all the cut up cards so you can see how lives are being transformed. Enjoy it !!
