Grill the Christian

I participated in the event "Grill the Christian" last night at UCONN. It was sponsored by Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF). There were three of us on the panel -- myself, a Greek Orthodox priest, and an Episcopal priest.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but about 40 people came out. The format was simply an open Q&A -- fire your questions away and we'd do our best to answer them.

Overall I was really impressed by the thoughtfulness of the questions. Many of them were pretty theological, some more personal. With a few exceptions, I thought people were asking really honest questions. Some people were trying to ask "gotcha" questions, which I don't mind, but it does make the questioner look a bit silly.

I really enjoyed the night and would do it again. I also thought there was really good chemistry on the panel. We all came from different perspectives within Christianity, but have much more agreement than disagreement. We were able to build upon each others answers in a way that I think was helpful.

If you were there, I would love to hear your thoughts...

  • I loved it, even though I was only able to stay for a little while. I would be totally pumped if that happened more often, like maybe once a semester. It was a great environment and many different types of people seemed to be there. And I really appreciated the different clergy that were there. It helped me get rid of some stereotypes I had about those denominations. And even though I've worked through many of my doubts, it was great to hear so many different answers and helped re-affirm my faith. So, all that being said, I loved it! Thanks for doing it Ben!
