Weekend Flashback

Even though it is Wednesday, some WEEKEND FLASHBACKS:

• I thought this was an excellent weekend at St. Paul's!

• We wrapped up our 3-week series "The Best Sex Ever". I thought Vince did a fantastic job with this series -- challenging, practical, encouraging, fun, pastoral, and most of all Biblical.

• One of the ironies of committing to Biblical preaching (which means really preaching the text) is that you take a lot of criticism from people. Some people will criticize because you don't cover enough ground, but really you can only cover what the text covers; others criticize you because they would rather hear pop psychology or something you might hear on Oprah, as opposed to Biblical exegesis and application. That's OK though because if we are going to take shots, I am happy taking shots for being Biblical in our preaching, lol.

• I would say that 98% of the responses to the series have been positive. In fact, I am really encouraged by some of the conversations I have been having with people who are taking the Biblical challenge when it comes to sexuality seriously. It is awesome stuff to watch and be a part of!

• I think the energy at the 4PM service the last couple of weeks has been great!

• Vince got a chance to hang out at Liquid during the 6PM service Sunday. I know he really enjoyed that.

• I love the stories I am hearing these days from how God is working in people's lives, how our small groups are becoming real communities, and how people are taking their next steps towards Christ. Really encouraging stuff!

• Jeff launches a great new series this weekend... don't miss it!

• It has been nice to have a break from preaching, but I will be itching to get back to it by the time Advent comes around. I am really excited about our Advent series and everything we have planned around Christmas this year.

• But since it is not even Halloween, I won't give away too many details.

• Beth asked me today at the office what I am dressing up as for Halloween. I will be dressing up as a church planter from a Connecticut college town :-)
