Rubber Band Power

I just started reading "Unleashing the Power of Rubber Bands: Lessons in Non-Linear Leadership", by Nancy Ortberg---- and it is great!

We are using this book in our online leadership small group this semester and I am really excited about it.

Here are some random (non-linear) thoughts from the intro & chapter 1:

• First, I am already loving this book! This feels like a book that I will keep in my leadership library a long time and recommend to a lot of people!

• I loved her focus on leadership being about creating a culture, not a system. Systems can support an organization and even a leadership culture, but is not a replacement for it (or synonymous with it!)

• Great leadership "creates environments where people can bring the best of what they do to what they do best." (Great definition!)

• Leadership = Hope!

• Developing leaders: opportunities, challenges, and relationships

Overall take-aways...

• Creating a leadership culture is really important and hard work.
• Leadership is about hope, painting a better picture of tomorrow.
• Leadership is not a formula, not linear steps.
• Leadership development is about stretching people... not so much that they break, but enough that they feel it!
