Psalm 89: 48
“What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol?”
I might be morbid, but I think about death regularly—not in a suicidal way, just with a sober realization that our days fly as swift as a weaver’s shuttle. Our existence here is a thin as mist. Remembering this helps me live wisely (I hope!). And I read recently that I have some company. Here is what Steven Jobs said in a commencement address at Stanford in 2005:
“Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything—all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure—these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.”
