GLC-Session 5

Russ Robinson-Session 5

Though I missed part of this session because I was out setting up our great lunch from Rein’s Deli, Russ Robinson provided practical advice on leading small groups. Russ challenged us to prepare questions based on scripture that are authentic and can allow people to share about what God is doing in their lives.

Practical Advice for Small Group Leaders

  1. Prepare well for your small group (don’t wing it!)
  2. Turn questions into discussions that can be introspective or interpersonal
  3. Look back and reflect
  4. Make smart investments. You must be strategic in who you invest in.

Jesus focused on:

  • The 72-with whom do you influence?
  • The 12-With whom are you intimate?
  • The 3-With whom do you invest?

80% of your impact will come with 20% of the people in your small group, and remember that small group leadership is not scripted.

Then, Russ walked through how Jesus had to use different approaches to love and invest in disciplines by focusing on Peter, John, James, Thomas and Judas. Paying particular attention to how you invest differently in people in your small group.

Spend a few minutes writing down who is in the inner circle that you invest in.
