DAY #8: Heaven-bound?

[from Unifyer, by Jen Roberts]

Will anyone be in heaven because of ME? WOW what a question, intense and very self focused, right? Well I would have to say that my children will enter heaven because we have decided to raise them in a community of God - not only here at SPCC but with our families, friends and the way we live, through their baptism and the pure faith of our families who would protect our children if we were to pass.

Beyond them I am not too sure who I have touched over the past 34 years of my life. I could start with my birth mother and her family, for allowing me to be born and adopted into a catholic family who gave me faith as a child. I could also include my parents for taking me into their hearts and home as their own baby girl. I could say the many friends and teachers that I have met in the many years of me moving from school to school and church to church. I could include those who I worshiped with during my time in college, and those I took with me to Sunday night worship in an auditorium at ECSU. I could include those children I worked with in children’s church for two years or at vacation bible school.

But were these people only going to heaven because of ME? NO! They are on their own paths and I am there during different stepping stones of those paths and they are on the stones of my path as well. We are helping one another on our way to heaven, right?

Point to ponder: Make the most of every opportunity to share. I have to say that since august and finding St Paul’s I tell all that might be seeking a church home that St Paul’s is an open church community and they are MY church home. I have felt welcomed, loved and amazed by what is happening there!

Am I crazy with how I shout it? No, I seek an opportunity to talk to others about my love of God and the love of SPCC – Now I am even more excited to tell them about how awesome this weekend was – Having my boys want to help in the making of AIDS kits, and the feelings I had as we all made the kits. All the conversations we had after the service with our children, and how we let them know why we made the kits, and who they were for, and why called us to make those together as a church. I believe that our oldest heard the words and might have even taken some into his heart, but as we move through another week only time will tell if he is able to comprehend the need for love, the need to share with others and opportunities he will have to be follower of Christ.
