FACT: Today, millions of children around the world will awaken poor, powerless and HUNGRY.

On a recent mission trip to San Miguelito, Panama a team from St. Paul’s met some of these children. Fortunately, we also met a group of people who have said “enough is enough, we are not going to stand for this any longer.” We met a church that believes that the local church is the hope of the world; a church that believes that one of its’ core purposes is to serve those around them and to reach out with the hope of the Gospel.

This church has established a feeding program that provides 500 children with one meal a day. This program is run by volunteer help and feeds at three locations in San Miguelito. The program is based at local schools and needful children are identified by their teachers. The effect of the program is to not only feed starving children; but also to keep these kids in school.

You can understand that hungry children are not motivated to go to classes or to focus on learning. Up until the end of 2008, this program was funded ($3000 per month) by a foundation in the United States. Unfortunately, the economic conditions of this past year have made it impossible for this funding to continue into 2009. These children are again going hungry. They are poor and powerless and cannot change their situation. But you are not and you can.

St. Paul’s, in partnership with Go Ministeries, the ADG Foundation, and Cielos Abiertos Church, is attacking this situation as part of our global P.E.A.C.E. initiative. We too, believe that the local church is the hope of the world and we too, believe that one of our core purposes is to serve those less fortunate than ourselves and to reach out to them with the hope of the Gospel.

To help manage the program, we are asking people to either set-up a recurring monthly donation online, or pay their pledge for the year in advance.
