Water/Construction Project
This project will take place between the dates of 1/3/09 and 1/12/09. We will arrive in Panama late in the evening of 1/3/09. We will spend the night in Panama City and leave by bus early the next morning for the village of Yaviza - about a 6 hour ride. Yaviza is a town about 60 miles from the Columbian border. It is in the province of Darien. We will sleep on the floor of the local church that evening. Early the next morning we will venture, via dugout canoe, approximately 2 hours to a small Emberra Indian village. The village consist of about 150 people who do not have potable drinking water.
The initial project called for us to help lay pipe, from a source of clean water, into the village. We think that we have found a better solution. We will be taking a water purification system to the village and teaching them to use it. We may also assist in constructing water holding tanks or find that we may want to construct the previously discussed pipeline.
You will find that our plans are fluid and always subject to change. We plan to return to Yaviza each evening for the night. We will return to the village each day depending on what remains to be done. If our work in the village is completed earlier than expected, we might do some light construction for the church in Yaviza.
We will return to Panama City on Saturday 1/10/09. The following day will be spent enjoying Panama City. We will return to the USA on 1/12/09.
This project will prove to be the most physically demanding of the three that we are involved in.
